A Fountain of Youth in Every Pod: Loving Your Nespresso Pods

By Rick Johnson

I love everything about Nespresso pods. Their bold colors and interesting names make them fun to collect, and of course I love the fact that there is a different flavor for my every mood. But did you know that these pods offer more than a convenient indulgence? That's right, these pods can also help you live longer. Want to live to enjoy that retirement you've been saving for? Want to be around to play with your great grandchildren too? Then consume more coffee.

You thought high school chemistry was dangerous? That's nothing compared with what ancient people went through trying to find the secret to long life. Unfortunately, medieval alchemists and Chinese herbalists didn't understand all the properties of the substances they were handling. So ironically, the search for immortality often ended abruptly when a caldron exploded or one too many mercury laced potions were consumed. The search for the fountain of youth in exotic locations also claimed the lives of explorers throughout history. Luckily you don't have to risk life and limb, you have your Philosopher's Stone in each Nespresso pod.

There was a time when people thought that coffee could be bad for your heart. Not anymore. In fact, more and more studies are showing that coffee has many health benefits.

Skin cancer, the most common form of cancer, will affect almost half of all Americans at least once in their lifetime. For some reason, women seem to benefit twice as much as men, up to 20 percent, by drinking caffeinated coffee. But coffee is shown to dramatically reduce a type of cancer that only plagues men: prostate cancer can be reduced by 30 percent by drinking a moderate amount of coffee, and drinking a lot of coffee (six cups a day) seemed to reduce the most dangerous form of prostate cancer by up to 60 percent. Liver cancer risk can also be reduced by up to 30 percent just by drinking one or two cups of coffee a day.

Coffee drinking has also been associated with a lowered risk of Type 2 diabetes, and it would seem that the more you drink of it, the lower your risk. Each cup consumed each day seemed to decrease diabetes risk by 7 percent. And remember, when you avoid diabetes, you are also avoiding the many diabetes related complications and illnesses such as heart disease, blindness, stroke, and kidney disease. When you dodge the diabetes bullet, you are really dodging several.

Brain diseases too are diminished by drinking coffee. Studies in mice show that coffee may prevent Alzheimer's by removing plaques associated with the disease and plays a role in creating new brain neurons. And drinking a few cups of coffee each day could lower your risk of Parkinson's disease by as much as 25 percent.

All of these health benefits are conveniently at your finger tips with your wonderful Nespresso pods. Just think: you can enjoy several times a day what explorers, emperors, and alchemists throughout history were unable to achieve.
