Enjoying Sushi And Japanese Cuisine

One of the most distinguished cuisines in the world today are that of the Japanese. People from all over have learned to love and enjoy Japanese food. Foodies would know that there is more to this cuisine than sushi Calgary. You experience a whirlwind of flavors and textures that make your dining experience more enjoyable and unique.

Basically, traditional Japanese food is the assemblage of rice, known as gohan, and an array of side dishes, known as okazu. The gohan is served in a bowl. The okazu is placed on a small plate. Miso soup can also be served, and also appetizers.

The Japanese limit the use of meat in preparing their meals. It is a common taboo to consume the meat of four legged animals. Thus, they turn to their abundant supply of seafood. Besides this, their diet is usually based on grains, wheat and seaweed.

The most popular type of food is sushi. Even Westerners have learned to grow fond of this dish. It is basically vinegared rice, known as shari combined with different ingredients which are called neta. This dish is categorized into nigiri and maki.

Nigiri refers to your selection of protein served literally on rice with wasabi in between. The commonly used protein is sashimi, which is raw fish. However, you can choose other alternatives such as fish eggs or tofu.

Maki is the more popular choice when it comes to the two. It basically takes the toppings and rice and then rolled into seaweed called nori. They are then sliced into six or eight portions. What differs Maki from Nigiri is that the fish used is not that raw. Plus, creativity is utilized more with the preparation of this dish.

Sushi Calgary is known to be healthy. The seaweed is said to be rich in vitamins and niacin. However, when it comes to the fish, make sure it is not as fishy as it is supposed to be. Taking a quick sniff before having a bite never hurts and it also allows you to enjoy your meal more.
